The Smoky Mountains in Tennessee are noted for their beauty and the Blue Ridge Parkway now goes through Virginia into Tennessee into the Smoky Mountains. The mountains are beautiful at any time of year; spring, summer, fall, and even winter when ice can form on the bare trees. In East Tennessee at the bottom of the Smokies lies a beautiful area. It is the man-made Douglas Lake reservoir which is 49 square miles and lies in four different counties. It was formed by the Douglas Dam which was built in 1943 by TVA for power and flood control. The dam is 202 feet and 62 miles high. This area makes a vacation dream spot. There are lakefront rental homes and cabins. There are campgrounds with RV and marina areas that are open all year for fishing. They have full service campsites and the fish are plentiful, especially Bass, Crappie and Striper. You can find any type of camping you wish here and there is plenty of service. If you prefer more luxurious surroundings, there is a beautiful Mountain Harbor Inn and Resort, a country inn in the mountains overlooking Douglas Lake with gorgeous views of the Smokies. The romantic setting, the wide porch and the lovely rooms make this a paradise for vacationers. It is known for romantic boat rides and sunset cruises. There is boat rental during the day. Weddings and honeymoons can take place here, and it is certainly a perfect setting for that. Any type vacation you night wish can be planned for this area.
